" Malaysia Baru? "

On May 9, 2018,  we created history after we managed to topple down 61 years under the UMNO regime. Since then, the phrase " Malaysia Baru" has been spreading like a wildfire.

“Malaysia Baru”: A phrase said by many, but meant by few.

Do you really think that we are moving towards this  ‘Malaysia Baru’?

My Fellow Malaysian,
Let me ask you one simple question: What does ‘Merdeka' really mean to you?

We survived being colonized for centuries because of the bravery of our ancestors.
Because of them, we never had to drop blood, shed a tear, or even scream for help.
We were united as a nation to fight for our land, home, and family.

Regardless of the countless sacrifices they made, do you think it was all worth it for them?
Do you think they would be proud of how far have we become?

On the contrary, we are still divided by different political beliefs,
Alienated by different perceptions of one own religion and cultures.
Overpowered by the villainous act of hatred and violence

Some say that race and religion keep us separated, but they are wrong,

Because cultural diversity is our identity as a Malaysian,
We were brought together by one language, acknowledging each other differences
We lived in a nation under one government, selected by the citizens itself,

Stereotyping and discrimination are still common in our society
Where ‘some’ Malay are too scared  to see other races are performing better than them,
Where ‘some’ Chinese employers prefer to hire a Mandarin-speaking employee
And there is the Indian race, where gangsterism and domestic abuse are still a norm to some of them.

There are more to these hideous truths and it is more painful to witness it with our own eyes,
Whether we want to accept it or not, these events had led us to endless conflicts

To some, it is a psychological war. A war without the mercenaries, but with painful derogatory remarks can be dreadful and some words are sharp enough to pierce a vulnerable human heart.
Ripping off their souls slowly and driving them insane to the point of no return.

It seems these endless fights have no sign of ending,
To the shocking event, it was driven by the extremists,
Supported by the coward keyboard warrior and religious bigotry

Let me as you again, Is this the freedom that we want?
Some of us are still fighting for our rights as a Malaysian,
Their basic rights such nationality, land, and a sense of belonging.

Some of us are still looking for acceptance as Malaysian but still remain outcast despite 63 years of Merdeka.

Let me ask you again: Is this what we call " Malaysia Baru"?

Islam the main religion in Malaysia.
But there is a small group of Muslims bigotry, who claimed themselves as the warrior of Islam,
Who pretended to fight for the race and religion.
In fact, it was never about the people. It was always about them. Their people.
They always forced us to believe whatever comes out of their mouth.
If you resist, you will be appointed as a "non-believer". You will never have a chance to enter heaven. As if they were the heaven gatekeeper.

If anything bad happens, they always keep pointing their fingers to the non-muslim, liberals, and also their own brothers and sisters who are not on the same path as theirs,

They are indeed, blinded and deluded with their own ideology,
Telling others that hellfire and greatest punishment is waiting for those who oppose their beliefs
Making their own rules and regulation just to fulfill their desires and legalize their own action.

Except, these people are actually dangerous.
They forgot, that they can be the greatest threat to their own religion,

As a saying says: " As one finger is pointing towards the other, the other fours are pointing towards yourself,"

In the end, the Muslim scholars are the one who has to clean their mess, and the rest of innocent Muslim has to take the blame and lived with the consequences.

Three years have passed and it's already almost at the end of 2021
With the current pandemic situation, things are just getting worst,

As we are more focused on blaming others rather than trying to help rebuild our nation from falling apart into pieces of broken hopes and dreams.

Let me ask you again: Is this the new Malaysia?

Until now, how can we find a common ground?

Thank you, MUAZ EZHAR.
